Your WMEA Program has been up and running during the Covid-19 outbreak, albeit on a limited basis. We’ve still been making pickups at some of the County entities that remained open, supported the school staff as they prepared lunches for our kiddos and did curb-side pickup for some of our Senior Citizens that were concerned about getting out in public. Safety remains a top priority as we use gloves, masks and lots of hand sanitizer. Although we had to suspend our larger trailer pickups, Rob Gerken, with Erie Recycling, noted a big increase in drop-offs at his facility in Antwerp. You just CANNOT keep passionate recyclers down!
We have some very exciting news to report. Our new program website will be up and running effective Thursday, May 28th. The very talented, Carrie Onder, part of the team at Natural Design and Graphics, is putting the finishing touches on it. Check it out at paudlingcountywmea.com and enjoy learning about our program. We will be able to provide real-time information and updates on a daily basis. I’m going to get some training on managing the site so am really looking forward to learning how to post videos and pictures that capture what goes on with the Program. Some of the first videos I post will be of, Becky Suvar, past Director of the WMEA Program. She had the honor of presenting our 4th grade County Billboard winners with their awards. We also have video of her getting a big thank you from the Paulding Elementary students as she prepared to retire after 28 years of serving the County.
The month of June is going to bring a special Recycling Roundup as we profile one family with 3 generations of recyclers. We’ll learn what motivates them, and why recycling is so important to their family.
Our trailer pickups which include Paulding Fairgrounds, Cecil, Junction and Latty will be resuming the first Saturday of June. I’m waiting on directives from our Boy Scouts and 4-H Clubs on when they’ll be allowed to begin meeting. We will be evaluating on a daily basis and hopefully can be back up and running completely by July 1st. Please watch the Paulding Progress, West Bend News, Chief Supermarket, all Post Offices and of course, our new website which can be found at pauldingcountywmea.com for information regarding when we’ll restart the Payne/Grover Hill/Scott and Haviland trailer pickups. I believe we’ll be able to resume those pickups the first Saturday of June as well, but it depends on a couple of factors. I don’t like the uncertainty and I know we’re all frustrated not knowing whether we’ll have our regular pickups or not. Thank you for your patience as we work through this trying time together. Feel free to call the office at 419-399-3630 or check that website after May 28th, to get the latest updates on trailer pickups for your area of the County.
